MOSFET ( ENHANCEMENT/ DEPLETION) LOAD INVERTERS

MOSFET (ENHANCEMENT/DEPLETION) LOAD INVERTERS

MOSFET s with enhancement type driver and resistance as load are not well suited for VLSI circuit fabrication and in other applications as resistance is a passive elements and it is very difficult is fabricate a resistor.Also voltage transfer curves do not show sharper transition and better noise margins. So nMOS  transistor as active loads poise a better condidature for inverter circuit. Also nMOS load occupies less chip area as compared to the linear resistor.
            The nMOS  load inverter is again categorised in two parts..The enhancement type nMOS  load and depletion type nMOS  load.The enhancement load inverter can again operate in two modes the saturation mode and the linear mode. The inverter circuit with saturated enhancement type nMOS load and linear enhancement type load.
    The gate and drain of the load transistor are connected to that Vgs load -Vt0 load<VDS load and the load is in saturation.So depending on the values of the input voltage Vin the driver transistor can be made to operate in the linear, saturation and cut off mode.Since the load load current IL=I'd,the various voltage point can easily be obtained.The output voltage level is limited to a maximum of Vdd-Vt load and we do not get a full swing i.e.,from 0 to Vdd at the output.
              The gate of the load is biased in such a way that Vgs-vt0>VDS load always so that load is always in the linear region and the high voltage level=Vdd.
        When Vin=Vol the driver turns off. The load transistor then charges capacitor C until the current through it becomes zero,which occurs Vgs=Vth.
    That is
           Vgs=Vdd-Voh=Vth
                Voh = Vdd-Vth
The body effect in MOS load device also has a significant effect on the design of nMOS logic gates using saturated load device.The output voltage increase towards Voh,the value of Vsb becomes larger,so the threshold increase.
             Vsb=Voh
The body effect cause a further reduction in Voh becouse of the above cited reason and the output voltage takes the form.

Voh=Vdd- [Vt0+Gama (✓Voh+2fai f- ✓2fai f)]
Vsb=Voh.
